FAMILY OF EMMETT TILL OUTRAGED AT LIL’ WAYNE’S VERSE ON “KARATE CHOP” (REMIX)

WAYNEMEAN

Looks like Lil’ Wayne is in a little trouble…..as if he’s not ever in any.

It’s no surprise that various groups and communities are often offended by some of the content in hip-hop music. Rappers come under fire all the time for their explicit lyrics and raunchy music videos. Lil Wayne is no stranger to this sort of criticism and he’s being targeted once again for uttering what many deem as an offensive and disrespectful punch-line.

Future recently dropped his remix to “Karate Chop (remix)” featuring Lil Wayne and there’s a line in the song where Weezy audaciously rhymed, “Beat that p—y up like Emmett Till.” For those who don’t know, Emmett Till was a 14 year-old African American boy who was brutally mutilated and murdered in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman. His murder became a major spark for the Civil Rights Movement.

There are many people who are obviously saddened and disgusted with the metaphor, a reference that has been used before by artists like Kanye West and Remy Ma. Representatives from the Till estate (via RapRadar) even took time to speak on the unfortunate incident. Perhaps, there is a line–or in this case a punch-line, artists just shouldn’t cross.
