INDIE ARTISTS/PRODUCERS/SONGWRITERS…HOW TO NETWORK WITH BLOGGERS/PR EFFECTIVELY!!

A3C Networking Event held in Atlanta each year during second week of October

A3C Networking Event held in Atlanta each year during second week of October

As I log onto twitter to check retweets, DMs, mentions, etc; I notice how independent artists; producers and or managers hit me up with links of their audio/video youtubes for review. As a blogger/PR, it’s normal for me to review music and give feedback, but there is one thing that I notice which turns me off from even listening to their music or even clicking on their link(s)…..PERSONALITY. It irks us bloggers to receive messages from artists or anyone else urging us to listen to their material when there is no personal touch. Why is this important? Well, bloggers are always busy with doing what we do best; writing stories/music reviews/interviews. We, (Bloggers) tend not to take people seriously if we are unable to really get the feel of the artist/manager and their goal for their music. Check out the Top 5 Ways to get in Good with Media outlets:

networking2

1. If using Twitter, hit the blogger/PR and ask for their email address. If they are following you, you are able to DM (Direct Message) them which provides better chances for a quicker reply. By asking for an email address, it lets the recipient know that you are interested in making contact.

2. First Impression is everything – In email, introduce yourself. This is your first contact with the blogger and a great way to break the ice and build rapport. If you tell them in email, “Wassup this my new single. Can you put on your blog?” I promise you that you won’t get a reply.

3. Artist, if you have mgmt. it’s best at times that the communication is between your manager and the blogger/PR – Why? Most artists want to know how a blogger feels about their music and want feedback; unfortunately, if their music is “not so hott” and the blogger expresses that to the artist, it can be very uncomfortable for the artist and the person giving the feedback. Artists may have a love for their music that may not be felt the same with the one who is listening and giving feedback. The manager or producer is the best medium for this opinion to be expressed to.

4. NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK: Do Not…go to a networking event playing the “pass the business card and run” game. Bloggers, PR, A&R WILL NOT remember you and most likely throw your card away. Shake our hands, introduce yourself, talk about your music/project, etc. and move on. You will be remembered!

5. NO PRO BONO!! Bloggers make money; not only from ads on their sites, but for work done as favors for artists/producers. Bloggers have no problem with putting your music on their sites at no charge, but once you bring the favor of constant advertising, giving them feedback, album reviews, etc; it becomes time consuming and at that point, we must be PAID!

This information is to HELP those who are in need of promotion of their material. The industry is a dog-eat-dog world and if you can’t communicate, you won’t make it.

PEACE!!

FORMER PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH SR CONDITION WORSENS….HAS BEEN MOVED TO ICU

gbush

The condition of former President George H.W. Bush appears to be deteriorating … he’s been in intensive care since Sunday, and his people are hedging on his prospects for recovery, saying they’re “cautiously optimistic.”

88-year-old Bush was hospitalized in November due to a bronchitis-like cough, and has remained hospitalized since.

Bush suffers from a condition called vascular Parkinsonism, which Bush has described as a kind of leg paralysis where “you tell your legs to move, and they don’t move.”  It’s unclear if the condition is related to his current hospitalization.

Bush’s fever has gone up in the last few days, and doctors have been unable to control it.

CITY OF AURORA ON HIGH ALERT AFTER THEATRE MASSACRE!!

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has released a statement in the wake of the Colorado theater shootings, saying they are stepping up security.

“While the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado appears to be an isolated incident, our vigilance has been raised,” said Captain Mike Parker, Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau. “The heightened alert of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department includes increased patrols to create a more visible presence at movie theaters and other places where people congregate.”

“As always, we encourage the public: ‘If You See Something, Say Something.’ The greatest deterrent to crime is often a phone call to law enforcement by a person who sees something that just doesn’t look right.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go to the many victims, families, friends, and first responders affected by this senseless crime.”

The Los Angeles Police Department tells RumorFix they are adding extra security at movie theaters and will even have undercover officers inside some theaters.

AMC theaters, which is the second largest movie chain in American, has released this statement: “For the safety and security of our guests and associates, we are  actively working with local law enforcement in communities throughout  the nation and under the circumstances, we are reaching out to all of  our theaters to review our safety and security procedures.”

WHO ARE YOU FOOLIN’? KIM K TELLS OPRAH LAST NIGHT THAT HER MARRIAGE TO KRIS H WAS NOT A STUNT

Kim Kardashian, in the first of a two-part interview on Oprah’s Next Chapter, told Oprah Winfrey she entered her disastrous marriage to Kris Humphries with the best of intentions, and explained the dynamic that keeps things sizzling between she and her new beau, Kanye West.

Oprah indirectly asked Kim if her ill-fated 72-day union to the NBA forward — chronicled in both an E! special and a season of Kourtney and Kim Take New York — was a hoax to pump up ratings.

Kim denied the nuptials were to bring attention to her family, saying, “We have an amazing fan base that watches the show — we don’t do anything for ratings.

“I was in love: I wanted the life that I always pictured my fairytale life to be,” Kim told Oprah. “I would’ve had an extravagant wedding anyway, to end that relationship was a risk in itself to lose ratings and I had to take the risk to be honest to myself.”

She said that while everything was great in the beginning, the bloom quickly came off the rose after she and Humphries moved in together.

“I saw how our relationship was,” she said. “I don’t want to get into the small things, but once we moved in, I knew he was not the one.”

KILLER OF NICKI MINAJ FAN FOUND DEAD IN TOKYO HOTEL AFTER CONCERT HAS BEEN ARRESTED – KILLER IS FROM MEMPHIS, TN!!

Remember the story we reported just a couple of weeks ago regarding the young girl; Nicola Furlong, who was murdered in a Tokyo hotel room following a Nicki Minaj concert? It was previously reported that one of Nicki Minaj’s dancers allegedly killed her, but the real killer has now surfaced. Check out the details below:

A U.S. church pianist has been arrested for strangling an Irish exchange  student who spurned his advances following a Nicki Minaj concert, in Tokyo a  spokesman for police said Friday.

Richard Hinds of Memphis is accused of murdering Nicola Furlong, 21,  in a hotel room on May 24.

The 19-year-old allegedly admitted to strangling the Dublin City University  student after she refused his sexual advances, but he insists that he did not  mean to kill her, according to ABCNews.

Furlong was reportedly found dead at the Keio Plaza Hotel after attending a  Nicki Minaj concert with friends.

Tokyo police say that a hotel employee found Furlong’s body after responding  to guests’ complaints of loud noises coming from a room, CNN reports.

Police said that Hinds was in the room with Furlong’s body when hotel staff  arrived.

It is unclear how Furlong and Hinds came to know each other.

Hinds and James Blackston, 23, a dancer from Los Angeles, had already been  detained on suspicion of molesting Furlong’s friend the same night in a taxi to  the hotel, CNN reports.

The Metropolitan Police Department told ABCNews that Japanese authorities  decided to charge Hinds with murder after viewing the hotel’s surveillance  footage and receiving Furlong’s autopsy report.

FRESH NEWS!! BUFFALO, NY DOCTOR AT LARGE FOR MURKING EX-GIRLFRIEND

A former Army Special Forces surgeon who allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend to death at a Buffalo, N.Y. hospital today remains at large, despite a day-long police manhunt.

Dr. Timothy V. Jorden, 49, is wanted in connection to the death of his one-time lover, Jackie Wisniewski, 33, a nursing student who died this morning on the floor of the Erie County Medical Center.

Armed with a warrant and with ambulances at the ready, police this evening used a robot to lead the way as they searched Jorden’s Lakeview, N.Y., home. The home was in the jurisdiction of the Hamburg Police Department, although the Erie County Sheriff’s Department provided the special robot. The law enforcement units and ambulances left the home after the search, ABC News station WKBW reported.

The fatal drama at the hospital began around 8 a.m., when Jorden allegedly shot and killed Wisniewski, a woman identified as his former lover, according to sources familiar with the investigation. She was found dead in a covered passageway joining the hospital’s Kidney Center and another wing of the medical center, The Miller Building, WKBW reported.

BREAKING NEWS: Two People Killed During Funeral of Slain 19YO in Atlanta!!!

20120607-170449.jpg

Moments after a preacher had delivered a message on the value of life, four people were shot, two of them fatally, at a DeKalb County funeral Thursday, according to police.
Authorities said three people were taken into custody.
The shootings occurred at Victory for the World Church on North Hairston Road near Stone Mountain, where a 1 p.m. funeral for homicide victim Ryan Devon Guider of Decatur was taking place, according to DeKalb County police.
“We were ready to go to the burial, and I heard pow pow pow pow,” mourner Regina Sharp told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I thank God I made it out alive.”
Investigators believe there is a connection between the shootings at the funeral and Guider’s slaying on May 26.
Police believe the man accused of killing Guider, Marcus D. Ventress, showed up in the church’s parking lot with a gun, fired several shots into the air and other people in the parking lot may have shot and killed him.
The scene at the church was chaotic. Police, fire and other emergency vehicles flooded the area, and North Hairston Road in front of the church was blocked both directions.
Witnesses said the church was packed for Guider’s funeral. Toward the end of the service, people were filing out of the church for the burial when a large fight broke out outside the church, witnesses said. The melee involved more than a dozen people, witnesss said.
Some witnesses said up to eight shots were fired.
Chris Collier, a friend of Guider’s mother, said she hid behind bushes when she heard the shots and then went back inside the church with others and hid inside a closet.
“I was really scared,” Collier said. “I thought we were all going to die.” Other witnesses said people were running and falling in seeking cover.
Guider, 19, was fatally shot May 26. Authorities said Ventress, 28, killed Guider in retaliation for burglarizing Ventress’ home.
Law enforcement sources told investigators that Guider stole jewelry, cash and drugs and punched Ventress’ mother,” DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Adrion Bell said Monday.
Ventress, who was considered armed and dangerous, was also wanted for aggravated assault on accusations he shot into an apartment in the 5800 block of Treecrest Parkway, thinking Guider lived there.
Ventress had multiple arrests between 2002 and 2009 in Elkhart County, Ind., about 125 miles southeast of Chicago, for charges that included attempted murder, drug possession, gambling and resisting arrest, according to Indiana jail records. He sent six years in prison on drug charges and was on parole and probation at the time of the DeKalb shooting, Bell said.
Guider also had been in and out of jail since 2010, including arrests for marijuana possession, theft by receiving and criminal attempt.
Dr. Kenneth Lee Samuel, the church’s pastor who founded Victory for the World Church in 1987, lamented the killings Thursday.
“We’ve got to find a better way,” Samuel said. “Our message has got to be peace.”
